Areas of interest: Art of the African Diaspora in Europe before the 20th Century; Curatorial Studies.


Malaika Newsome is a recent graduate of Western Carolina University with a B.A. in Anthropology with minors in Art History, Dance, and French. For three years she worked at the WCU Fine Art Museum, where she dove into curatorial work, including artist interviews, manual transcriptions, and object handling. She volunteered at Atlanta History Center, High Museum of Art, and Museum of Contemporary Art GA. She has worked on projects with Black Art Sessions and The Curator’s Pick. Malaika currently has a blog titled Mai Food & Art where she writes on meals she cooks based off of art works and vice versa.
