Areas of interest: Roman art and archaeology; Roman mosaics of North Africa and Western Asia; experiential approaches to visual-material culture; digital humanities applied to the study of the ancient world.


Claire Davis is a PhD candidate at the IFA writing her dissertation on depictions of landscapes in mosaics from Roman North Africa. She received a BA in Classical Studies from The George Washington University, where she was awarded the Classical Association of the Middle West and South Award for Outstanding Accomplishment in Undergraduate Classical Studies and an MA in Art History and Archaeology from the Institute of Fine Arts. She is an excavator/researcher for the NYU-Oxford excavations at Aphrodisias and the NYU-UMich Quirinal Project in collaboration with the Soprintendenza Speciale di Roma. She has held positions at museums and research institutions, including the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, the National Geographic Society, and the Saint Louis Art Museum.
