FINH-NA 100-001 Art in the Age of AI: How Artists See, Think, and Make with Machines

Instructor: Eana Kim, PhD
Meets: Wednesdays, 9:30AM-12:30PM

Course Description: How do artists imagine, challenge, and collaborate with machines? This six-week course traces a century of experimentation with machines—from early mechanical and cybernetic art to contemporary AI-based practice. Students explore how artists use algorithms, feedback systems, and machine vision to challenge ideas of creativity, authorship, and human intelligence. Through hands-on activities, discussion, and site visits to museum conservation and time-based media labs, participants gain insight into how artworks made with technology are created, interpreted, and preserved. The course invites students to think critically about art, ethics, and creativity in an increasingly AI-driven world.

Registration Requirements: Open to high school students only living in the tri-state area
